Technologies Licenses Designs to NASA |

ECC Technologies, Inc., a pioneer in developing and licensing
advanced, ultra-high-performance, parallel Reed-Solomon (PRS)
error-correcting (ECC) encoder and decoder designs, today announced
that it has licensed PRS ECC designs to NASA Goddard Space Flight
Center (NASA Goddard) in Greenbelt, Maryland.
“NASA Goddard plans on using ECC Technologies’ PRS designs in NASA’s
James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and possibly other spacecraft to
correct errors in Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) memories caused by
radiation," according to Alex Kisin, Senior Staff Engineer at NASA
Goddard. The JWST is the successor to the Hubble space telescope.
Alex says, “The major advantage of ECC Technologies’ PRS designs is
that they perform error correction in almost real-time with a
minimum of delay, and that is what is needed for ECC used with SDRAM
memories.”
"NASA Goddard’s selection of ECC Technologies’ PRS designs for use
in the JWST reinforces the fact that ECC Technologies’ PRS designs
are state-of-the-art when it comes to speed, reliability, and
efficiency," said Phil White, ECC Technologies’ president. Phil
further stated, “I hope other industries will consider using our
proven PRS designs in future, parallel-transfer communications and
storage products such as parallel-transfer hard disk drives.”
ECC Technologies, Inc. has been granted a US Patent on the PRS
designs.
