From AIA President and CEO John W. Douglass on the NASA
Realignment Announced Today |
ARLINGTON, Va., June 24 /PRNewswire/
The following is a statement by John W. Douglass, president and
CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association:
The aerospace industry is encouraged that NASA Administrator Sean
O'Keefe and his leadership team have begun to act on the recommendations of
the President's Commission on the Implementation of United States Space
Exploration Policy, chaired by former astronaut Pete Aldridge. Among those
recommendations is a call for NASA to be "transformed to become more
focused and effectively integrated." NASA's announcement today that it
will merge seven existing Enterprises into four Mission Directorates begins
this process.
AIA's Board of Governors has identified aerospace research and
development as a critical issue for the competitiveness of the United States.
With a new vision for interplanetary exploration and opportunities to advance
the state of aeronautics research and development as guideposts, NASA is
repositioning itself to meet these challenges and keep the United States at the
forefront of aerospace innovation. We look forward to working with NASA as it
pursues its mission to protect the planet, explore the cosmos and inspire future
generations of Americans to great achievements in science and technology.
